UNODC

Our Ninth Comittee is UNODC

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a specialized body of the United Nations tasked with assisting member states in addressing global challenges related to illicit drugs, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism. Established in 1997, UNODC operates through a threefold approach of research, prevention, and international cooperation to strengthen justice and security frameworks globally. The proliferation of drug-related problems and gang activities poses a serious threat to the health, security, and development of nations worldwide. Illicit drug production, trafficking, and consumption have fueled the rise of transnational organized crime, empowering gangs and cartels to operate with increased sophistication. These entities exploit vulnerable communities, perpetuate cycles of violence, and destabilize governments through corruption and intimidation.
Gang activities, closely linked with drug trafficking, exacerbate social and economic inequalities. Marginalized groups, particularly youth, are often recruited into gangs due to lack of opportunities, education, or social support. This has devastating effects, including the breakdown of communities, rise in violent crime rates, and increased pressure on law enforcement and judicial systems.
